It Started With My Own Name
In 2010 I was in the middle of a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology, and I put my surname on a domain: Namase.com. At heart it was a tips and tricks site, computer tips, tricks, and hacks for anyone who used one. Writing it taught me two things at the same time, how to explain technology in plain words and how Google decides who gets found. I did not know it then, but that second lesson would pay for everything that came after.
The personal domain outgrew itself. On the advice of several people I turned it into a professional site, registered TechLila.com in February 2012, and moved the content over. That is the site you are reading now. More than a decade and millions of readers later, it is still the thing I am known for.
Two Months at TCS
After graduation I did what every engineering graduate around me was doing and joined Tata Consultancy Services as an Assistant System Engineer. To be honest, I was not ready for it. My inner voice was saying that TCS was not for me, but situations were such that I had to join. It kept pushing me to do the things I loved instead of working 9 to 6, so I listened, and I resigned within two months, in May 2013.
My family, relatives, and friends were seriously shocked. It was a dream job for many people, and it still is. Some friends called me an idiot. Some tried to convince me to change the decision. I did not, and I have said the same thing every time I have been asked since: it was the best decision I have ever taken, and it changed my life for good.
The Site That Disappeared
Right after TCS I built a web hosting niche site that ranked in the top three positions worldwide for its keywords. The money was very good, and I planned many things around it. Then one guy did negative SEO on the site and it lost every ranking it had. A year and a half later I was still struggling to get those keywords back.
That episode proved a rule I already lived by: never set your targets in terms of money. Sreejesh gave me exactly that advice when I started blogging professionally, and I have followed it ever since. Blogging and SEO were my passion long before they were my income. I never started this to get rich, so losing one site could not take the reason away. I simply didn’t give up.
Tushar, Bluehost, and a Handwritten Letter
By the end of 2013 I had the basics of SEO and digital marketing down, and I started building affiliate sites with Tushar Thakur. The two of us were among Bluehost’s top affiliates in 2014 and again in 2015, and the Bluehost team sent us a handwritten card to say so. In January 2016 we made the partnership official as WebGeeksMedia. Trust me, it was one of the wisest decisions I have ever taken, and it has run a whole portfolio of digital projects since.
Around the same time I started BloggingTips.guru, a guide for people who wanted to do what I had done. In October 2021 it was rebuilt as TechRT.com, a complete tech blog that Tushar and I run together. TechKV.com, our Android and iPhone site, came out of the same partnership. These days the two of us also run well-established news publications, approved for Google News, that we have chosen not to name in public.
Prudour: Eight People, an Office for Fifty
At the end of 2015, Pramod Pawar asked me to become his business partner, and in November 2015 we registered a partnership firm called GlobeMetrics. In March 2017 it became Prudour Pvt. Ltd., with Pavan Lipare and Sudhish Mohan joining as partners.
In September 2016 our team size was eight. We booked office space for fifty people, because our inner voice was suggesting that we should not stop there. One of my relatives asked why we were taking such a huge risk. One year later we were a team of sixty. At one point Prudour had around 120 employees and freelancers, and it is the company behind Market.us, MarketResearch.biz, and Market.biz. In October 2023 I stepped down from the director role, though I still hold an investment in it.
DataFeature, and Selling It
In October 2023 I co-founded DataFeature.com with Pavan Lipare. It covered routers, home networking, and web browsers, a subject I had been testing for years out of a habit of switching browsers in search of a faster workday. In March 2026 we sold it. A site you built with your own hands is hard to hand over, but a decision you think about for too long is not a decision.
What I Believe
Everyone has 24 hours a day. It took me 25 years to realize that time is the most valuable asset any of us has. Since then I have run my days on a timetable, tracked my hours, and once went 30 days without opening WhatsApp just to see what came back. One to three extra hours a day, it turned out.
Give your 100%. Listen to your inner voice. Whatever your target is, split it into short-term goals and check after each one whether you are still heading the right way. I have failed some of my own targets, and I say so, because a plan you never look at again is the same as throwing a dart first and drawing the circle around it later.
Personal Life
I live in Pune, Maharashtra, with my wife, Dipali, and our daughter, Maitreyi. Dipali is a commercial artist, and since our marriage she has been helping me in the business as well. Maitreyi is in primary school, and I try to spend as much time with her as I can.
I am a family man at heart and believe in keeping a healthy balance between work and life. Business is the highest priority in my life, but I keep a separate time block for everything else. When I am not at my desk, you will find me reading a book, on the badminton court, at the gym, or on one of the trips I plan well in advance. Yoga has been part of my routine for years, and I still do not miss a chance to learn more about it. Everyone gets the same 24 hours; this is how I spend mine.
