The best phone dialer for Android in 2026 is the one Google ships: Phone by Google is free, carries no ads or in-app purchases, and its listing shows more than 5 billion installs and an update from this week. The rest of this list exists for what it does not do: identify unknown callers the way Truecaller does, strip out ads and permissions the way Fossify Phone does, or restyle the call screen the way True Phone and drupe do.
Current as of September 2026. Every one of these dialer apps for Android is live on Google Play, checked this week for its last update, its download count, and whether it carries ads or in-app purchases. Seven entries from the 2025 version of this list failed that check, and the reasons are listed further down rather than quietly dropped.
Android Dialer Apps Compared
The dates and download counts are what the Play Store showed on September 4, 2026. The best Android dialer for a given phone depends on what you want it to stop doing, so read the ads column first if you came here looking for the best dialer app for Android without ads: three of the ten have none.

What Changed Since the Last Version of This List
Dialer lists rot quickly, because most of these apps come from small teams and Google removes what stops being maintained. Checked against the store on September 4, 2026:
- RocketDial, ZenUI Dialer, OS9 Phone Dialer, Contakts Address Book, Metro Phone Dialer and ExDialer no longer exist on Google Play. Their listings return a 404.
- Simpler Dialer is alive but was linked to a package that no longer exists. The current app is published as Easy Phone by LSM Apps, with more than 10 million installs, and it is listed under that name below.
- Phone by Google, Fossify Phone, Hiya and CallApp earn places. Google’s dialer is on the Play Store for phones beyond the Pixel line, Fossify is the successor to the Simple Mobile Tools dialer, which was last updated in January 2024, and Hiya and CallApp cover the spam-screening side that most searches for a new dialer are really about.
- All twelve screenshots from 2018 are gone. An eight-year-old interface shot labeled with a 2026 app name misrepresents the product.
1. Phone by Google
Stock Android dialer
Phone by Google
Best for anyone who wants spam warnings without giving a third party their call log
Google’s own dialer is the answer for most phones that did not ship with it. The listing promises spam warnings, caller ID for businesses, and call blocking, with Hold for Me and Call Screen limited to supported phones and countries per its own footnotes. It is the only app here with no ads, no purchases and a billion-scale install base at once.
2. Truecaller
Caller ID and spam blocker
Truecaller: Spam Call Blocker
Best for identifying unknown callers, especially in India
Truecaller is the caller ID database the others are measured against, with more than 1 billion installs and a listing that now leads with an AI Call Scanner for synthesized voices and an assistant that answers calls for you. The trade is the one it has always been: its identification works because users upload their address books, and the free tier carries ads.
3. Fossify Phone
Open-source dialer
Fossify Phone
Best for people who want a dialer that asks for nothing
Fossify Phone is the open-source continuation of the Simple Mobile Tools dialer, and its listing makes one promise the rest cannot: free from ads and intrusive permissions, with the code reviewable on GitHub. It has no caller ID database, by design. If your search was “best dialer app for android without ads”, this is the shortest answer.
4. Easy Phone (formerly Simpler Dialer)
Light dialer with themes
Easy Phone: Dialer & Caller ID
Best for replacing a slow stock dialer on a budget phone
The app this list once called Simpler Dialer is now Easy Phone, from LSM Apps, and its listing describes a fast dialer with call blocking, caller ID, T9 search, call history and themes. The Play Store flags neither ads nor in-app purchases, which makes it the lightest full-featured option here.
5. True Phone
T9 dialer with theme manager
True Phone Dialer & Contacts
Best for restyling the incoming-call screen and one-handed use
True Phone, by Hamster Beat, sells itself on the call screen: big contact photos, job and birthday details, a choice of answer styles that mimic Google, iPhone and Huawei, and a built-in theme manager. Its listing also claims the fastest T9 dialer and one-handed navigation. Expect ads in the free tier.
6. drupe
Contact overlay for every app
Phone Dialer & Contacts: drupe
Best for people who call, text and WhatsApp the same dozen contacts
drupe is the odd one out: instead of a phone app you open, it is an overlay you swipe in from any screen, then drag a contact onto the app you want to reach them with. The listing claims more than 20 million users and adds caller ID, spam indications and a blocker on the call screen. It was updated this week.
7. Hiya
Spam and scam screener
Hiya: Spam Blocker & Caller ID
Best for screening unknown calls before they ring through
Hiya’s listing is built around screening: a call screener that answers unknown numbers and asks why they are calling, real-time warnings for scam language such as urgent payment demands, and alerts when a caller may be using an AI-generated voice. The Play Store flags in-app purchases but no ads, a rarer combination than it should be.
8. Eyecon
Photo-first caller ID
Eyecon Caller ID & Spam Block
Best for seeing a face and a name before you answer
Eyecon shows a full-screen photo and name for incoming calls, pulled from the caller’s public social profiles, and lets you jump to their messaging apps from the call. With more than 100 million installs it is the largest photo-first dialer, and the most visual option for anyone who recognizes faces faster than numbers. Ads and purchases are both present.
9. CallApp
Caller ID with call recording
CallApp: Caller ID & Block
Best for caller ID, blocking, SMS and recording in one app
CallApp bundles caller ID, a spam blocker, a default SMS app and call recording, and its listing claims a lookup database of more than 7 billion numbers. It is the choice for people who want one app to replace phone, messages and recorder, and the one to skip if you want a quiet dialer, since ads and purchases are both flagged.
10. Contacts+
Contact manager with dialer
Contacts+
Best for keeping Google, iCloud and Outlook contacts in one book
Contacts+ has moved from consumer dialer to work tool. Its listing now leads with syncing across Google, iCloud, Microsoft 365 and Exchange, an AI business card scanner, and duplicate merging, and says it is trusted by more than 3 million sales professionals and recruiters. Pick it for the address book, not the dial pad.
How to Set a Dialer as Your Default
Android asks whether to make a new dialer the default the first time you open it. If you dismissed that prompt, open Settings, then Apps, then Default apps, and choose the app under Phone app. Caller ID and spam screening also need the app set as the caller ID and spam service, which Android asks about separately. Switching back is the same screen with the stock app selected.
Android Dialer Apps FAQ
What is the best phone dialer app for Android?
Phone by Google, unless you need a caller ID database. It is free with no ads or purchases, updated this week, and its spam warnings cover the reason most people replace a dialer. The best call dialer for unknown-number identification is Truecaller; for zero ads and zero data sharing, Fossify Phone.
Which dialer app for Android has no ads?
Three on this list carry no ads by the Play Store’s own flag: Phone by Google, Fossify Phone and Easy Phone. Hiya has no ads but does sell in-app purchases. Of the three, the best Android dialer app for privacy is Fossify Phone, because it also asks for no permissions it does not need.
Is Truecaller safe to use as a dialer?
It works, and more than 1 billion installs say people accept the deal. The deal is that its caller ID depends on users sharing contact data, so if that bothers you, Hiya or Phone by Google identify businesses without asking for your address book.
Can I use Phone by Google on a Samsung or Xiaomi phone?
Its Play listing says the app is available to download for phones beyond Google’s own, though features such as Call Screen and Hold for Me are limited to supported devices and countries per the listing’s footnotes. Install it and set it as the default phone app; if the store says your device is not compatible, the listing is the final word.
Which dialer records calls?
CallApp and True Phone list call recording among their features, and Truecaller lists it as a built-in tool. Whether recording works depends on your phone and country; Android restricts it on many devices, and the legality of recording a call varies by jurisdiction.
What happened to ExDialer, RocketDial and the others?
Their Google Play listings return a 404 in September 2026, along with ZenUI Dialer, OS9 Phone Dialer, Contakts and Metro Phone Dialer. If you still have one installed it will keep working until an Android update breaks it, but there is no longer a place to get updates.
Which Android Dialer App Should You Use?
Start with Phone by Google if your phone allows it, because it costs nothing in money, ads or data and it covers spam warnings. Move to Truecaller only when unknown callers are the problem you are solving, and to Fossify Phone when you want the opposite trade: no database, no ads, no permissions. The decision that outranks features is the ads column, since a dialer is on screen every time the phone rings, which is why the best dialer for Android is usually one whose ads column says No.
The rest are specialists: True Phone for the call screen, drupe for reaching contacts across apps, Hiya for screening, Eyecon for faces, CallApp for recording and Contacts+ for a work address book. Whichever you choose, check the update date on the listing before installing; six of the apps this page recommended two years ago are gone. If you are also reworking the home screen, our Android launchers list was checked the same way.

Out of these 12 – True phone dialer. Hands down. Supports saving contacts to phone memory, dual sim, by default shows history & numpad, integrates well with my Moto g5 (android 7.0), doesn’t show ads all the time. Maybe not the most pleasing visually, but with some colours tweaking (also available in the app) – it’s far from ugly.

ExDialer hasn’t been updated in over a year and Rocketdial and Contakts are no longer available.

Exdialer is no longer on the Playstore.

Ohh, thanks for letting me know.

True Phone says it has call recording feature when we see it in Play Store. But when installed it is not seen; either this feature is not working or it is not there at all. Otherwise True Phone is a very good and pleaseing app

There was an app called xdialer that was outstanding for some reason Google removed it from the Play Store. You could schedule appointments right from the app without having to go to an outside calendar. I have no idea why somebody has not created an app similar to it.
If you should discover anything about this app or why I was removed from the market I would love to know why.
Thank you for spending time to do the reviews you’ve done I have not found any of them anywhere near as effective or efficient as xdialer.
Thank you,
Bill
FYI This form is not very cell phone friendly Microsoft swiftkey. It was much More friendly using Grammarly keyboard.

I tried all these 12 dialers listed here and found True Phone Dialer being the best so far in Africa. It is user friendly and have nearly all the features you can expect in a good dialer. Even its recording quality is the best of all other dialers I ever used since 1990 on Android 9 and below. Where I found it failing was on Android smartwatch with Android 10.
