How To Set Up Your New Computer

When we buy a new device, specifically a computer, it is very hard to know where to start to make it functional and safe. If somebody isn’t a professional in the field, knowing that there is no working software might be a nightmare. Even though you install software onto a device, there is still a ton of work to be done. To help with this, there are a few tips that can help you know how and what to do.

First and foremost, safety

After connecting all the necessary cables, and everything turning on as it should, your first step has to be safety. Make sure to keep safe from viruses, as well as to search for applications that help with your online privacy. An antivirus program and a VPN are must-haves. You shouldn’t do anything through your computer without correctly protecting it first. It can cause damage and attract viruses that can slow your computer down.

Install a browser

Since it’s very obvious that we all need the internet, download a browser that will always be your default so you can use it whenever you want to get online. There are many different ones you can pick from, just double-check that it is safe and clean. Most people always opt for Google Chrome, as it is the most popular, but there are many more that work just fine, like Mozilla Firefox or Opera. It is our biggest necessity for actions online, so make sure it’s a good one that won’t cause any harm or issues.

Create a backup channel

The number one thing when it comes to taking care of the information you put into the computer is to create a way for your data to back up instantly. There are different backup channels for different types of information. Everything from your login data and passwords, to pictures and files, should have a security copy somewhere. That way you don’t have to worry and think about the risk of losing everything. The storage Google Drive offers could be enough in the beginning, but still, know that you might need more space. It might be very smart to use more platforms, just in case.

Small details

After your computer is prepared to access the internet, make sure you install everything that you need and that will enable better functioning of the computer. Add all the extensions your browser needs and all the programs you will be using. Before downloading anything, always be careful and make sure it doesn’t contain anything that shouldn’t be there, and after a few downloads make sure to clean your device from possible viruses.

Take care

Last but not least, keep your hardware clean just like your software. Take your computer every once in a while to get cleaned and checked for any malfunctions. Since this is a guide for those who aren’t professionals, there is always a possibility that something may slip by, so don’t hesitate to start caring about the wellbeing of your device from the very beginning.
