Those two counts measure the most popular Android games in different ways: how many phones installed a game, and how many players cared enough to rate it. Thirteen games are ranked below on both measures, plus star rating and update date, all read from each game’s own US Google Play listing. The field spans endless runners, pool, puzzle, a game platform, strategy, virtual pets, racing and a board game. Shooters sit in their own ranking, so they are left out here. Install tiers, review counts, ratings and update dates are as listed on October 12, 2026. ## Key Takeaways - Subway Surfers lists **1 billion+** downloads, **41.5 million** reviews and an Editors’ Choice badge. A higher install tier does not guarantee a bigger active community, which is why the scoring weighs reviews alongside downloads. ## 1. Subway Surfers SYBO Games lists Subway Surfers at **4.5** stars on **41.5 million** reviews with **1 billion+** downloads and an Editors’ Choice badge. This pick pairs reach with full store recognition. The pitch is lightning fast swipe acrobatics, hoverboard surfing and a paint powered jetpack. The listing was updated on Sep 28, 2026. It ties Ludo King on the weighted total and ranks second of the two on reviews. Cons- 4.1 stars. - Ads and in-app purchases. - Fewer reviews than Subway Surfers, its closest rival. ## Verdict by Use Case All thirteen games land between **9.7** and **7.9**. The right install depends more on how and where you play than on rank, and ads, offline play and multiplayer split the field more sharply than the totals do. - **If you want one game to keep:** Subway Surfers, with **1 billion+** downloads and an Offline tag. - **If you want to play friends online:** 8 Ball Pool, Clash Royale or Clash of Clans. - **If you want no ads:** Roblox, Clash of Clans or Clash Royale, the three listings with no ads label. - **If you often lose signal:** Hill Climb Racing or Ludo King, which state offline play in their descriptions. - **If a child wants a pet:** My Talking Tom or Pou, both at **1 billion+** downloads. - **If you want a different game every night:** Roblox and its user-made games. ## How We Ranked Four weighted criteria were scored from each game’s US Google Play listing as fetched on October 12, 2026. Install tier and review count carry the most weight, because popularity means reach first and an active player base second. Install tier came from the download label on each listing, review count from the review total beside the star rating, and player rating from the star average. Upkeep came from the listing’s last-update date. Developer statements, such as a download count inside a game’s description, are reported in each writeup but never scored. Subway Surfers and 8 Ball Pool reach 9.7 by different routes: Subway Surfers on reviews, 8 Ball Pool on its rating. Roblox loses ground only on rating, and the two Supercell games on both reach and rating. The pets and the board game lose points on reviews and rating together. Exclusions. Two kinds of game were evaluated and left out: - **Shooters:** Free Fire lists **1 billion+** downloads and **130 million** reviews, and PUBG Mobile lists **1 billion+** downloads and **48.7 million** reviews. Brawl Stars carries Shooter and Tactical shooter tags with **26.1 million** reviews. All three are covered in the [shooting games for Android](/shooting-games-for-android/) ranking instead. - **Pokémon GO:** its listing says the game has been downloaded over **1 billion** times, and it asks for 2GB RAM or more and Android Version 6.0 to 10.0+. The listing page did not show its download tier or rating, so it could not be scored on the same scale. Settings shows your phone’s version, and the [Android version names](/android-versions-with-list-names/) list maps the number to its release. Also considered. Four more games met the update rule but fell short of the review floor for their install tier: - **Gardenscapes:** Playrix lists **4.8** stars, **13.3 million** reviews and **500 million+** downloads. - **Homescapes:** Playrix lists **4.7** stars, **13.4 million** reviews and **500 million+** downloads. - **Among Us:** Innersloth LLC lists online or local WiFi play for 4-15 players, at **3.9** stars on **13.7 million** reviews. - **Candy Crush Soda Saga:** King lists **4.6** stars and **8.85 million** reviews with **500 million+** downloads. Rounding and ties. Weighted totals are rounded half up to one decimal place. Subway Surfers and 8 Ball Pool tie at 9.7, three games tie at 8.4 and two at 8.2; each tie goes to the larger review count. ## What are the most played games on Android? Clash of Clans shows **61.3 million** reviews, Roblox **52.9 million** and Clash Royale **41.8 million**, the three highest counts among the ranked games. The store does not publish play time, so the review count is the closest public sign of an active player base. Outside this ranking, Free Fire shows **130 million** reviews, the largest count among the listings captured. By that measure, the most played games lean toward online multiplayer, while single-player runners and pets match them on installs. ## Which is the most famous Android game? On the measured scores, Subway Surfers has the strongest claim. It shows **1 billion+** downloads, **41.5 million** reviews and an Editors’ Choice badge, the only game here at the top mark on install tier and reviews with a rating of 4.5 or better. Developers make their own claims as well. Ludo King’s listing states **2 billion** downloads, and Pokémon GO’s says it has been downloaded over **1 billion** times. The order is most likely to shift among the 8.2 to 8.4 games, where one rating change can swap places.
