4 Cyber Security Threats to Be Aware of

Although technology offers a number of benefits in this day and age, there are ever so often drawbacks. Most of these drawbacks come in the form of potential cybersecurity threats. As a result of a cyber-attack, you may lose your banking information, and in some situations, your personal identity could be stolen.

You have no doubt heard in the news stories about people facing these situations, and you have always been glad that you were never personally victim to any of these events. Still, in order to ensure that you limit the chances for cyberattacks altogether, there are a few threats that you need to be aware of. Continue reading for more information.

1. Brute Force Attack

A brute force attack refers to an attack made by a hacker whereby they gain access to your password as a result of using a computer program that will help them guess what your password is in the first place.

It is referred to as a trial and error method, but because the hacker is using an automated program, there is still a chance that they will end up gaining access to your personal information if the program finally guesses the right combination. Therefore, to protect yourself, you should always adopt two-step authentication processes whenever possible.

2. Phishing Email Scams

At one point in your life, you have no doubt seen the phishing email scams that announce you have won something and all you have to do is provide your confidential information to receive your prize. However, this is something that you should never do, as it’s a scam.

3. Ransomware

When it comes to ransomware, you will be told that you no longer have access to any of your information, and instead have to pay a ransom to get it once again. The hacker will promise that you will get your data back after payment, but keep in mind that this is a false claim.

4. Endpoint Security

Endpoint security attacks refer to hackers that intercept the connection between a technological device and a network, to gain access to your data. This is yet another area that you need to be careful over, and so you must install the adequate endpoint protection programs that will keep attacks at bay.

You can read more about what steps to take in this case on mcafee.com.

The Benefits Associated with Becoming more Knowledgeable

Above all, there are a number of benefits associated with becoming more knowledgeable about potential cybersecurity threats. Understanding data security will help you rest easier at night, and it will save you the hassle and headache of having to deal with the personal problems associated with losing your private information.

Keep in mind that knowledge is power, and that is why you always have to keep your ears and eyes open for any threats that may come your way. While this may never happen to you, it’s still better to be safe than sorry, and thereby be adequately prepared should this occur. Moreover, if you now know what a phishing email looks like, for instance, the chances are that you will not open it, and you will be more wary about your next steps.
