# Corrections Policy

Readers follow TechLila guides at the keyboard, and a single wrong step can cost someone an afternoon or their files. That is why an error report gets checked, answered and closed rather than filed. This page explains how to report a mistake, what we do with the report, and how a correction shows on the article.

## How to report an error

Use the [contact page](/contact/) and tell us the article’s address, the sentence, step or number you think is wrong, and what you found instead. If a step failed, the operating system or app version you ran it on and any error message help us reproduce the problem. If a figure looks wrong, a link to the source showing a different number settles it fastest.

## What happens next

We reply to every report. We check the claim against the source the article cites and against the vendor’s current documentation. If the article is wrong, we correct it. If the report rests on a different version or region from the one the article covers, we make the article clearer about which one it describes.

## How corrections appear

**Corrections.** When a fact, figure, step or attribution was wrong, we fix it in the article and add a short note at the end saying what changed and on which date.

**Clarifications.** When a sentence was accurate but easy to misread, we rewrite it in place, and add a note when the change could affect a reader’s decision.

**Updates.** When a new software version or newer data makes part of an article out of date, we replace that material and the article shows its new updated date.

**Small fixes.** Typos, broken links and formatting are fixed quietly and do not change the date.

## When we take an article down

Deleting an article is never how we deal with an error. We retire one only when it can no longer be made accurate, for example when the software it covers has been discontinued.
